Lanka / Language
There are three official languages in Sri Lanka-Sinhala,
Tamil and English. Broadly speaking, the first two
are spoken by the corresponding ethnic groups. Sinhala
is a language of Indo Aryan origin while Tamil is
a Dravidian tongue. English is a link language and
is widely spoken to varying degrees of profficiency
at least in the main centers of the country. Place
names and signboards on buses and trains are usually
in all three languages.
