Caesarea!
The name itself evokes visions of the ancient city
that Herod the Great dedicated to Caesar, over 2000
years ago. He adorned the city with fine marble and
splendid monuments, the remains of which can still
be seen today. Many peoples, of different creeds,
governed the city throughout its history as an important
coastal station. The Phoenicians founded a base there
in the 4th century BC Long after the fall of Herod's
city. It was fortified as a stronghold by the Crusaders
who landed there in 1101.
