Beyond Delhi Gate lie the banks of Yamuna, marked by a series of memorials to India's leaders, of which the most prominent is that of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

To the South of Firoz Shah Kotla (where the ruins of the city Firozabad lie) is the Pragati Maidan, a permanent exhibitions center. Close by is the Purana Qila, a silent witness to the crucial struggle between Mughal Emperor Humayun and his formidable Afghan rival Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century. Today it is the venue for the Delhi's annual flower show.

Located in South Delhi are historical sites such as the Lodhi Gardens and Tombs, Safdarjangs's Tombs, Hazrat Nizamuddins's Dargah, and Humayun's Tomb. Humayuns Tomb is the best examples in Delhi of the early Mughal style of tomb and should be visited preferably before visiting the Taj in Agra.

Constructed in 1980-81, the latest of the seven Bahai centers in different parts of the world, it is built out of white marble and is in the shape of a lotus. It is set amidst pools and gardens, and adherents of any faith are free to visit the temple and pray or meditate. When floodlit at dusk, it is particularly.

Apart from the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Red Fort and the Jam Massaged in Delhi are remarkable examples of the mature Mughal Style that developed under Shahjahan's patronage. They - the twin jewels of Shah Jahanabad (Old Delhi), the city that Shah Gahanna built The Red Rut (Lii Quila) was built between this city and the river Yamaha and was modeled on the Agar Fort.
