Hangzhou
The
City
It is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of
the seven large ancient capitals in China. It is situated
on the bank of the Qingtang River the southern end
of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Its urban area
covers 430 square km and has a population of 1.12
million. Hangzhou has a temperate climate suitaable
for tours during all the four seasons. There is an
old saying, "Above is heaven and below is Suzhou and
Hangzhou.
Attractions
Major
tourist spots include the West Lake, Lingyin Temple,
Peak Flown From Afar, Six Harmonies Pagoda and Yellow
Dragon Cave, etc. On the 18th day of the 8th lunar
month (about mid September) it is interesting to see
the rushing tides of the Qiangtang River. Hangzhou
has many kinds of local and special products such
as Longjing tea, Shaoxing rice wine silk products,
West Lake silk parasols, bambooware, Qingtian stone
carvings, and Dongyang wood carvings, etc. From Hangzhou,
one can visit Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi and Nanjing by
train one Wenzhou and Putuo Mountain by boat.
